Calling all storytellers to The Ladder Community Center on Tuesday, October 25, 2016 at 7:00 pm for a time of reminiscing in an event called “Share our Stories.” This informal gathering is aimed at allowing people to share three to five minute stories about happenings in and around Oceana County. Questions or a willingness to share, please call The Ladder Community Center at 231-259-0211. We will have an informational meeting Wednesday, October 19 at 7 pm at The Ladder Community Center. We plan on meeting once a month on the 3rd Wednesday. If you love to read and are always looking for that next great novel or you like to share what you are reading with other people, join us. Each member would choose their own book and we would get creative with the parameters. One month your book could be from a specific genre, written by an author with a last name starting with "S", or a book with a recipe/that is about food. Maybe you have another creative idea?
For only $5 come relive the Big Band era of the 40's and 50's. Listen to the music dance if you would like!
The General Assembly was formed in 1971 by a group of western Michigan musicians. The General assembly is a full 17 piece orchestra with female vocalist performing the best of the old and new in music for dancing and listening. Musicians now come from a wide area, including Reed City, Spring Lake, Grand Rapids, the Ludington area and Muskegon. Many of these musicians have performed with nationally known stars such as the Temptations, Bobby Vinton, Max Roach, Peter Nero and Henry Herman, Miller, The Dorseys, and others. Serving up the sounds of the big bands such as Basie, Kenton, Herman, Miller, the Dorseys and others, the band has performed throughout Michigan from the Detroit area to Traverse City, while receiving requests for appearances from as far away as San Francisco. You are welcome to preview the band at their web site HERE! |
